Description
Misty Fiords National Monument is a national monument and wilderness area administered by the U.S. Forest Service is about 40 miles east of Ketchikan, Alaska. Eddystone Rock is a pillar of basalt; from fractures in the crust some 5 million years ago. The broken, haphazard texture of these basalts indicates that Eddystone Rock was part of a volcanic vent where magma rose repeatedly to the surface of the earth.
